Massachusetts sheriff’s deputy Tom Brady fired after allegedly having employees do free plumbing work at his home

A deputy superintendent at a local jail has been fired after he allegedly had employees perform free plumbing work at his home Tom Brady who has been with the Norfolk County Sheriff s Office since has been terminated from the department according to an office spokesperson Brady who was the deputy superintendent at the House of Correction in Dedham has been accused by the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission of violating the conflict of interest law He allegedly had subordinate sheriff s office maintenance department employees perform free plumbing work at his home during and outside of their state work hours Last week the Norfolk County Sheriff s Office sent Brady a termination notice for failure to meet expectations and standards His firing was set to go into effect last Friday and Brady resigned a day before in lieu of his termination Brady s annual base pay hit last year and he took home more than for the year with leave buy back and other pay Now in the first four months this year Brady already took home more than due to nearly in leave buy back According to the State Ethics Commission Brady allegedly approached sheriff s office plumbers to perform work at his private residence including replacing a shower head replacing his water heater and repairing his boiler The plumbers performed this private work mostly during their state work hours Brady allegedly didn t pay the plumbers for the work at his home or reimburse the sheriff s office for the value of the state work time the plumbers used to do this private work Brady also allegedly had a sheriff s office plumber and electrician replace his boiler s circulator pump which they did outside of their state work hours Brady is accused of giving each of them a bottle of wine instead of paying them Each time Brady approached subordinate Sheriff s Office employees regarding private work at his home his request was inherently coercive due to his rank and position the Order alleges the State Ethics Commission wrote The Order further alleges that Brady s actions violated the conflict of interest law s prohibition against state employees receiving anything of substantial value given to them because of their official position as well as the law s prohibition against populace employees using or attempting to use their official positions to obtain valuable unwarranted privileges that are not properly available to them the Commission added The State Ethics Commission has scheduled a hearing for the matter later this month Brady was a correction officer until when he was appointed as assistant deputy superintendent of jail operations at the sheriff s office Then in he was promoted to serve as the deputy superintendent at the House of Correction in Dedham Related Articles Karen Read protesters tally win in First Amendment buffer zone occurrence in federal appeals court Karen Read Day Detective says Read was questioning strike Proctor text messages read in court Karen Read retrial Day Angry voicemails and sudden taillight pieces Howie Carr Canton Confidential Quiz the sequel Massachusetts football coach pays fine for promoting private football camps When Brady was promoted Norfolk County Sheriff Patrick McDermott disclosed In his career Deputy Superintendent Brady has been consistent and reliable constantly ensuring that our facility runs smoothly and safely The House of Correction is stronger and safer because of his dedication to the facility and our mission
